Verified ReviewerBilling question
Billed 175.00 last month because the didnt bill a Covid test properly to my insurance. Refunded that a week later.
Today billed 82.40 which after several attempts to contact afc corporate I finally got thru!!! I was told that a bill for 225.00 balance was on file and was sent to their billing response team to look into. They did not have the 82.40 bill showing on my account. She said to call back next Tuesday and they should have the answer.
This corporation is horrible. Im a senior citizen and dont have monthly money to be billed every month for charges no one can explain!!
I do not recommend using them for any of your health needs!! Good luck if u do!!!
- Corporation difficult to work with

Verified Reviewer |Horrible management
Do not go to American Family Care on South College Street to be seen or to try to work there. The Manager Kortnee Jackson and the Clinical Director Karen Wyatt are very rude and unprofessional.
They also love talking bad about patients and coworkers. Also, the wait time is horrible; they take forever to bring patients back. Moreover, when you get to the back, the providers have you sitting in the room for two or three hours. Then, when you ask how long you have left in there, nobody knows anything.
When the providers finally come in the room, they do many unnecessary tests on you that you don't need. The doctor, Patrick Bianchi, orders so much medicine for people and has them take it, and some patients become sicker than when they came in. He also likes to tell people to come back the next day and do follow-ups, and when they come back, he orders the same medicine for them to take again, which made them sick when they took it the last time. Also, he loves telling people to come back so he can keep charging you more money.
I also heard that he doesn't have a license to give or prescribe patients medication. Also, the provider named Savannah Hayes likes to do unnecessary tests on patients. She also prescribes the wrong medication to the wrong patients, and they end up taking medicine they didn't need. She also likes to tell people to follow up the next day and she never works the next day to see the patients she tells to come back.
She also has patients sitting in the rooms for hours before she goes in there. Her, and Dr. Bianchi, take patients off the board so they can't say they have been sitting in the room for hours. Further, Bianchi and Savannah Hayes like to sit in their office talking about coworkers.
Bianchi is on his phone watching videos, that's why the wait time is long and patients complain and leave before being seen. Also, the Manager Kortnee and the Manager Madison at AFC Tiger Town location never do anything about a situation that happens and when you tell them about it, nothing is ever done about it. They bring in people from different locations to help out in the office; some of those people don't know what they are doing and some are rude and unprofessional for no reason. The Manager Kortnee never orders enough supplies, so this place is always running out of stuff that you really need.
She is rarely there, and when she is, she leaves early every day.
She doesn't do anything but sit in her office all day, and she likes to find reasons to pick and say things to you about what you're doing, and likes to write you up about it. So, you would be better off going to the hospital than coming to this urgent care, where nobody in there really cares about your well-being.
User's recommendation: Do not go to this place

Verified Reviewer |Resolved: Disrespectful doctor and staff!
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. Problem resolved
I vividly heard a sarcastic remark about me from Dr. Stephanie Gafford to a nurse outside of my room prior to being seen.
'He wants his Gabapentin refilled? Well, that's not happening.' I don't know if she didn't think I could hear it or didn't care but either way, it was unprofessional and arrogant. I later went to the ER and received better treatment, and all of my needs were addressed. My seizure and neuropathy medication, Gabapentin, was refilled and I wasn't treated like a drug seeker.
I was also provided with a referral to a neurologist, which Dr. Gafford did not do as she said she would.
She did explain that she couldn't refill a controlled substance there, which makes sense, but I took offense to her comments in the hallway. It's not polite to stereotype or profile patients.
- Failure to provide a referral
- Judgmental doctors and staff

Question concerning service
I was a patient of AFC on Saturday, September 7. I went in with a diagnosis of Shingles.
I have a 4" band from my sternum to my spine on my right side. At that time I was prescribed the antiviral Valacyclovir and given a Tordal shot for the pain as there was not a physician on staff that day that could prescribe gabapentin.
As you can imagine, the Tordal lasted only a few hours and I was told to check back first of the week.
I called on the 9th and still no doctor that could write a prescription. Finally had filled on the 10th around 4 pm.
I called your tuscaloosa 69 south office on Friday September 20th to see if I could have 4 or 5 more days of the gabapentin. I was told then that, once again, no qualified doctor in Tuscaloosa AFC locations but I could come into the midtown store on Saturday.
I had explained to the young lady that I was going out of town and would not be in the area. She told me to call Monday (today) if I still was having pain.
So, I did call today. Same story. No doctor.
She then suggested that I go to Med South, pay for another visit and get them to write a prescription.
WOW
I am 63 years old. I do not take medicine of any kind. The 100mg Gabapentin only takes the edge off so I can rest.
I work every day and do not take them during the day.
I have, literally, had no more than 3 hours of sleep any night for tye last 5 days.
I just cannot understand why I can't get any help from someone at AFC. The young lady said that they could not call any of the AFC locations outside of Tuscaloosa for the prescription help.
What is a patient, like me, supposed to do?
User's recommendation: It depends on how this is handled
Inquiry on an amount due

Verified Reviewer |Resolved: ComplaintSat in the office for almost two hours and there was maybe two people waiting. I gave my insurance cards up front and should have been told immediately that they did not accept Medicare!
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. I went back and they were very nice. Explained the girl was new and made an error!
Two wasted hours and the receptionist doesn't know they don't they don't take Medicare? I handed her my cards right up front!
I should have been told immediately! My family has come to that office before. No more !
How can I tell you to make them be more informed? A big waste of my time not to mention the pain sitting there waiting to be helped.

On vacation, I was in pain and concerned about a possible kidney infection. They charged me $175 and then told me they couldn't even treat me because my blood pressure was elevated.
No help was provided at all. Please give me my money back!
User's recommendation: Stay away
Frustrated!
GWent because I was having issue, I dont have a GP anymore as mine retired so I decided to try AFC because I needed to go to a doc soon because I was in so much pain and did not want to go to the hospital. They did test and blood work, week later called left me a vm I tried calling back several times but kept being transferred then hung up!
I just wanted to see about my blood work but I cant because no one wants to take the time to find the right person to talk to me!
A patient shouldnt have to keep calling the offfce to find out test results and keep getting hung up on very unprofessional and upsetting! Thought about going there in the future but not anymore if this is the way they treat there customers!!

I called the Kearny NJ location and was told that they do offer the medical test for the immigration process. I took my 80 year old father and spent 2 hours in the waiting room.
During this time I paid the $400 fee. The front desk girls were courteous but they were clueless. Finally when we saw Dr Sanchez, he examined my father physically then said we would have to go to another site to do the blood test to determine the level of vaccines in my dad. He treated us like we were there to beg.
He left to write us scripts for the blood tests. I asked to speak with the office manager and everyone got frazzled and started mumbling. Dr Sanchez walked in with an attitude, he asked us what is the problem and if we want our money back is not a problem. He walked to the admission team and told them to give us our money back, the girls started ranting about they told us and the doctor said just give them the money back.
At no point did the office manager approached us.
This team does not know what theyre doing .
The waiting area had a young woman going to the bathroom to vomit a few times, she was sitting there with her mask off and no one said or did anything to her .
When we walked in we were quickly handed masks to wear. Whats the point then ?

Verified ReviewerFamily was thrown out of urgent care with sick kids
I am writing because my wife took my 5 year old and 3 year old this morning to your urgent care at southpoint in Durham North Carolina. Now my family has been seen here 4-5 times over the last 3-6 months.
Never an issue, never anything but positive experiences. Until today, when your medical assistant Michelle threw my wife and kids out because my 5 year old and 3 year old refused to put masks on. Now my 5 year old has pnemonia, we got that confirmed at the Duke urgent care up the road after being thrown out of your establishment. To say Im upset or angry would be a total understatement.
My wife has brought both our boys there numerous times and not once were they given an issue about wearing masks. Also my 5 year old, who has pnemonia, is also potentially on the spectrum and doesnt like things on his head or face. So your medical assistant Michelle told my wife to leave and go somewhere else. Its unacceptable, and disrespectful to treat a mother with 2 very sick kids in that manner and this Michelle seems to enjoy using power and being disrespectful.
Also if the provider at this location was also in agreeance with this decision then you should get yourself different providers.
We have seen numerous others at this location in the past and they have all been very nice and wonderful with my boys. But no one in this day and age should be sending a mother and her 3 year old and 5 year old with pnemonia out the door after waiting patiently to be seen all morning.
- Fast service
- Some of the staff are wonderful
- One bad egg is all it takes
- Wife left in tears with two very sick kids
Preferred solution: Apology

I called here to see if they accepted my insurance prior to coming in because I couldn't get an appointment with my doctor. They did.
Staff was super helpful over the phone and actually answers the phone immediately.
They are located in the vons and cvs parking lot. Very easily accessible. I was checked in by Crystal who was working the front desk. The lobby was very busy and she was super patient, helpful and friendly with each and every patient - not to mention super efficient at checking everyone in and getting people registered right away.
She did a great job of setting proper expectations on check in process and wait times assisted patients with getting registers making the process seamless.
I was told about an hr and 45 min wait, but was called back with in 20 minutes! How awesome is that! I was honestly blown away by her customer service. I think she deserves to be recognized for her exceptional people skills and professionalism.
Would highly recommend this location for your urgent care needs.
Ronda was the nurse and she was working so hard and fast to get patients seen despite the rush. In between patients I felt super at ease because I noticeably saw her disinfecting and wiping everything down. The facility is very clean.
She was also super friendly and professional and assisted everyone with a positive attitude.
Shout out Ronda and Crystal for being so good to patients and urgent care is never a fun place to be but these two ladies made it that much more pleasant. Kindness goes along way!
